Agenda

  • Call to Order:  President Erik Good called the convention to order. 
  • Welcome & Introductions:  Pres. Good welcomed BHC Democrats & Visitors.
  • Report of the Credentials and Ballots Committee:  18 BHC Democrats present.  Need 3 votes to nominate a candidate.  One may vote uncommitted.
  • Treasurer’s Report:  Treasurer Sandi Menke stated our balance is $1650.59.  One may use the Q symbol to donate.
  • Presidential Preference Caucus:  Candidates:  Joseph R. Biden, Stephen Lyons, David Michael Olscamp, Jason Michael Palmer, Armando Perez-Serrato, Dean Phillips (dropped out) Marianne Williamson, Uncommitted.  Speaking Limit for a candidate is 1 minute.  Lynn Meier nominated Joe Biden as our best hope.  Joseph R. Biden received 18 votes.  No other candidate received a vote and none voted uncommitted. 
  • Election of Delegates to the Wyoming State Party Convention June 1 in Casper.  Delegates should support Joe Biden. But if one votes one’s conscience, there are no consequences.  Delegation should be racially and gender equal to the extent that can be.                                              a. Full or half delegates? – must send full or half delegates- not a mix.  Full delegates selected. BHC has 6 delegates.                                         b. Election of delegates: Lynette Murray, Erik Good, Jean Petty, Jade Smith, Ralph Nieder-Westermann, Michael Jaycox were nominated and unanimously elected.  Mary Freund and Darla Haller were elected unanimously as Alternates. 
  • Consideration of Platform: Platform Committee members were Lynette Murray, Karyne Dunbar, and Jennifer Lindgren.  Lynette explained the process used to arrive at the platform.  The 5 Pillars from Michael Yin from Teton County of Hard Work, Freedom, Community, Pride in Land, and  Honesty; the 2022 County Platform; our Word Cloud which listed Health Care, Mental Health Care, Public Education, Voting Rights, Housing & Food Costs, and Women’s Autonomy; and the State of the Union were used as a basis to develop the platform while keeping it concise, positive and avoiding trigger words.                                         The Proposed Big Horn County Democratic Platform 2024 was open for discussion.  After a very lively discussion, the platform committee will rewrite it after a unanimous vote to adopt each proposed change. Copy posted below.  Barbara Anne Greene representing the Associated Press will receive a copy of the updated platform. 
  • Announcement from the Floor:  Lynette motioned Jennifer seconded that the BHC Democrats buy the Banquet tickets at the State Convention for our 6 delegates.  Passed unanimously.                                                 Next meeting Thursday, June 27 in Lovell. As patriotic Americans, we proudly support policies for the following and the freedoms they provide:

Economy

  • Build an economy that rewards hard work with affordable health care, food, and housing
  • Support worker safety, rights, and livable wages
  • Diversify our Wyoming economy

Health Care

  • Support the rights of individuals to make their own health care decisions
  • Support medical experts
  • Protect Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security from privatization and elimination
  • Insure affordable health care and prescription medication for all

Education

  • Support the use of public funds for public education only
  • Provide greater support of public schools, including technical and trade programs
  • Support academic freedom and educators
  • Promote safety to protect staff and students

Law and Order

  • Support constitutional democracy
  • Support the rights of responsible gun owners
  • Support equitable treatment for all
  • Support adequate funding for law enforcement and the personnel who assist them

Immigration

  • Support immigration reform, including a path to citizenship
  • Support reasonable, humane laws with adequate funding to protect and secure our borders

Elections

  • Support the voting rights of all eligible citizens
  • Support fair and legitimate elections

Environment

  • Support the diversification of energy sources
  • Keep public lands in public hands
  • Support environmental policy that reflects the reality of climate change
  • Support efforts to maintain a quality environment

Foreign Policy

  • Support our allies, including NATO
  • Support the two-state solution for Palestine and Israel
